24 – 27 October 2019
Babel visningsrom for kunst welcomes you to the exhibition BOK. TRYKK. PAPIR by Trondheim-based artist Elisabet Alsos Strand October 24 – 27.
Welcome to the opening of the exhibition on Thursday, October 24 at 19.00!
This year, the 500th anniversary of the first printed book in Norway is celebrated through a national book year. Internationally, Norway is promoted as the main country during the Book Fair in Frankfurt.
In the exhibition BOOK. PRINT. PAPER Elisabet Alsos Strand shows a selection of artist’s books that have been created in parallel with the artist’s work with printmaking. Prints were originally stored in folders and often created as series. Through the intimate format, artist’s books make it possible to experience the tactile qualities of printmaking, and by turning the book’s pages, time becomes a dimension of the art experience. Elisabet Alsos Strand wishes to devote as much attention to the different elements of the book: materials and printing techniques, content and form, and make this merge into the artists book. Some of the books also contain text, and the exhibition will show examples from collaborations with the author Anne Bøe. Some texts are printed with lead printing letters, while another work is based on the artist’s own diaries and handwriting.
Elisabet Alsos Strand is from Mo i Rana and lives in Trondheim where she has a studio at Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder. She holds a master’s degree from the Bergen Art Academy and a doctorate from the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland. Strand explores different printmaking techniques, paper and book formats from the west and east. The elements of nature are often the starting point for the images. Strand has participated in several of the projects of Codex Polaris, an artist collaboration on artist books. The Nordica Library, which is another book collaboration between Nordic artists, will be displayed at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2019.
