WAVE INTO BEING

An image appear in the mind

sliding away

from the middle

to the sides

then up

away from the center

emerging

opening up

revealing

no thing

slipping away

dissolving

illusion

a moment or second

of stillness

presence

consciousness

In quantum mechanics, the double slit experiment demonstrates how light and matter appear to change from wave behavior into particles when being observed. When electrons are detected by the apparatus, wave function collapses, resulting in two lines of particles on the screen. When not detected, the electrons are waves, creating an interference pattern.

In a series of paintings, Kamilla Langeland strives to re-create images observed in the mind during meditation and early stages of sleep. When the frequency of brainwaves slows down from beta to alpha and theta, a shift in perception and consciousness occurs. From brain waves into painting, Langeland interprets internal observations onto the canvas, while playfully creating connections between consciousness and the curious quantum world.
