Linn Rebekka Åmo & Eli Maria Lundgaard

The exhibition Huden er et lag som kan skrelles av  (The skin is a layer that can be peeled off) shows works by the artists Linn Rebekka Åmo and Eli Maria Lundaard.

Linn Rebekka Åmo’s work is based on the artist’s residency experience in Murmansk, through the project AiR Barents. A three-year cooperation project with exchanges of artists between Northern Norway and North-West Russia. The work is based on narratives of hierarchical mechanisms between people. The work embraces the informal and formal systems that we can find with different groups of people. Åmo investigates positions and roles, ranking, distribution of power and prestige. She uses shapes and colors to emphasize and illuminate social elements that places people in relation to each other in the landscape. In the textile works, social landscapes are mapped and shaped into abstract forms, structures and colors. The work revolves around the relationship between the rational and the instinctive, between culture and nature, and between tradition and the present.

Eli Maria Lundgaard wants to manipulate, deconstruct and reconstruct her surroundings, and to wipe out and elucidate definitions and ideas. She is interested in the uncertainty in narratives, situations and phenomena, which can neither be confirmed nor destroyed. In the space between facts and fiction, she alienates something apparently known. In the exhibition shown at Babel, she has been concerned with the idea of something that is changing. Transformation from one state to another. When old words and names are no longer adequate, and you need new definitions to give meaning to foreign situations.

Eli Maria Lundgaard was born in 1989 in Trondheim. She holds a master of art from the Art School of Malmö (2018), and a bachelor from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design

(2015). She works with various media, but mainly with video and sculpture. Her works have been presented at The Moscow International Biennale for Young Artists (2016 and 2018), at The Antarctic Biennales onboard program (2017), as well as several different exhibitions in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe. In 2019, she is one of the nominees for the Future Generation Art Prize, and will show her work in Kiev and Venice.

Linn Rebekka Åmo was born in 1978 in Bodø. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Bergen Academy of Art and Design (2007) and a master’s degree from Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts (2009). She now lives and works in Bodø. She has participated in several exhibitions in Norway in recent years. In Trondheim her work has previously been shown at the Trøndelagsutstillingen on two occasions, as well as in the exhibition “Vindauge” at Rake visningsrom in 2015.
